Sighting the Moon

A brief exposition by Jāved Ahmed Ghāmidī touching upon a contemporary issue that Muslims face, especially in the Indian Sub-continent. Ghāmidī, while explicating relevant Hadīth narratives in their proper context, proposes a solution that needs to be deliberated upon.

Sūrah Duhā

This is a commentary of Sūrah Duha by the celebrated exegete of the Holy Qur’ān – Amīn Ahsan Islahī. In addition to offering an incisive analysis of the subject matter of the sūrah, he has also very aptly explained many difficult parts of this sūrah.

Sūrah Āl-i ‘Imrān (100-117)

This is an annotated translation of twenty verses of Sūrah Āl-i ‘Imrānby Jāved Ahmad Ghāmidī. From here begins the second section of the sūrah– directed towards the newly constitued Muslim community. They are given advice to be on guard against the People of the Book, fear the Almighty like He rightly should be feared, hold fast to His rope, and remember God’s favours upon them. This is followed by a mention of their status as the best group of people raised for a divine mission.

History, Form, Meaning and Use of the Oath

This brief essay of Farāhī focuses on oaths sworn in the Holy Qur’ān. As apparent from the title, it traces historical precedents of oaths in the pre-islamic era, why and how oaths were pledged and their specific use in the Holy Qur’ān.

What should a person say when he hears the Ādhān

This is a description of a comprehensive Hadīth narrative on the above captioned topic by Moiz Amjad and his team. The narrative is followed by a note discussing its important variants found in different anthologies of Hadīth literature.
