Pant / Shalwar / Pyjama (izaar) long enough to cover ankles

There are several ‘ahadith’ in which it is narrated that who so ever wears - out of pride - such ‘izaar’ that covers his ankles then that part of the ankle is bent upon to go into hell fire.
In these ahadith, it appears that if the covering of ankles is because of pride and arrogance then it is a sin,  otherwise not (perhaps).
In these days almost all muslims, with very few exceptions, wear pants / shalwars / pyjamas that cover the ankles, not because of pride or arrogance but because of custom or practice of that area.
Are all those doing some thing like sin?
Would any body clarify this confusion.
