Salam. Is there any friend who want to discuss here different forms of jihad: i.e. jihad by an Islamic state, resistance against foreign aggression, and rebellion against a Muslim ruler. I am interested in questions about aim or cause,  declaring authority, and prerequisites. Further, I would like to know that how different groups (classical, modernist, revolutionist, extremist, and moderate) addressed these questions.

As-Salaam alaikum,
Further to the question raised above on Jihad, I wish to contribute and say/observe that Jihad in Islam literally means to struggle or strive, or to work for something with determination. It does not mean war. The arabic word for war is Harb and the word for fighting is Qital.

The ruler of the Muslim Ummah/Community can declare and execute the provisions of Jihad when there are aggressive designs against Islam; and there are concerted efforts to eject Muslims from their legally acquired property; and that military campaigns are being launched to eradicate them….
