Sufism is considered as something mystical n which God provides his hidayat to a person and then he guides all. . This is a general perception in the society about it.

The question here is what is Sufism? And is it a parallel religion?

As-Salaam alaikum,

No Sir, Sufism is NOT parallel to Islam… rather it is the inner, spiritual dimension of Islam. And Tariqah- as method- is the attempt to both preserve and penetrate that dimension. The Shari’a, on the other hand, is the divinely ordained mould within which that spirituality takes shape. These 3 aspects of Islam (Sufism, Tariqah and Shari’a) are inseparable parts of an organic whole.

Imam Malik, may Allah be Merciful to him, put it well when he said:—“He who learns Jurisprudence (Fiqh) and neglects Sufism becomes a reprobate; and he who learns Sufism and neglects Fiqh becomes an apostate. But he who combines both will reach the Truth.”

As for the many paths which developed over the centuries, the classical Sufi saying sums it up:— “Tawhid is one, but the path to Allah equal the number of people since Adam.”  These different ways have always been viewed as a Mercy by the Ummah.

Best Wishes.
