I Qur’anic Verse of the Day

Test of Wealth and Children

Believers! Let neither your wealth nor your children make you heedless of God’s remembrance. And those who do this shall surely be the losers. And spend of what We have given you before death comes to any of you and he says: “Lord! Why did you not give me some more time that I would have spent in charity and would have become among the virtuous?” And God never gives respite to a soul when its appointed time arrives. And God is aware of all that you do. (63:9-11)

Your wealth and your children are a test for you and with God rests great reward. So, fear God as much as you can and listen and obey and spend for your own good. Those who were protected from their soul’s greed will surely succeed. If you lend a generous loan to God, He will pay you back manifold and will pardon you. And Godis the Most Appreciative, the Most Forbearing. He has knowledge of the unknown and the manifest. He is the Mighty, the Wise One. (64:15-18)

II Hadith of the Day

Taking the Initiative in Salutations

Abu Hurayrah (rta)reported that the Prophet (sws) said: “The young should say salam to the elder, the one who walks should say salam to the one who sits and the smaller crowd should say salam to the bigger one.”[1]

III Bible Verse of the Day

God’s Love for those who Repent

Now all the tax-farmers and sinners came near to give ear to him. And the Pharisees and scribes were angry, saying, This man gives approval to sinners, and takes food with them. And he made a story for them, saying, What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if one of them gets loose and goes away, will not let the ninety-nine be in the waste land by themselves, and go after the wandering one, till he sees where it is? And when he has got it again, he takes it in his arms with joy. And when he gets back to his house, he sends for his neighbours and friends, saying to them, Be glad with me, for I have got back my sheep which had gone away. I say to you that even so there will be more joy in heaven when one sinner is turned away from his wrongdoing, than for ninety-nine good men, who have no need of a change of heart. Or what woman, having ten bits of silver, if one bit has gone from her hands, will not get a light, and go through her house, searching with care till she sees it? And when she has it again, she gets her friends and neighbours together, saying, Be glad with me, for I have got back the bit of silver which had gone from me. Even so, I say to you, There is joy among the angels of God, when one sinner is turned away from his wrongdoing. (Luke, 15:1-10)
