وَ وَصَّیۡنَا  الۡاِنۡسَانَ بِوَالِدَیۡہِ حَمَلَتۡہُ  اُمُّہٗ  وَہۡنًا عَلٰی وَہۡنٍ وَّ فِصٰلُہٗ  فِیۡ عَامَیۡنِ  اَنِ اشۡکُرۡ لِیۡ وَ لِوَالِدَیۡکَ اِلَیَّ  الۡمَصِیۡرُ.(14:31)

C. Evaluation Segment

 

How kind are you to your Parents?

 

 

1. You are on a foreign tour and have ample time and money for shopping. You:

i. do not make the effort to buy gifts for your parents.

ii. buy the cheapest gifts for them.

iii. think of lying to them that you did not have the time to go shopping for them.

iv. take out time and buy the most appropriate gifts for them even though they may not be expensive.

 

2. Your mother scolds you for a mistake you never made. In return, you:

i. scold her back.

ii. abuse her.

iii. patiently bear her anger but are impolite to her for some hours.

iv. patiently bear her anger and show politeness immediately after.

 

 

3. Your old father is sick and needs to be taken to the doctor. You:

i. keep delaying this task.

ii. ask some else to take him even though you have the time.

iii. take him to the nearest doctor but not to the most competent one who lives a little far.

iv. immediately take him to the best doctor in town.

 

4. Your old mother asks you for new clothes. You:

i. keep postponing her request.

ii. buy her coarse and cheap clothes even though you can afford good ones.

iii. fulfil her request in the best possible way.

iv. never comply even though you have the time and money.

 

5. Your old mother accidentally breaks a very expensive vase in your drawing room. At this, you:

i. ignore the whole incident and behave as if it never happened.

ii. ask your mother what happened but do not show any displeasure.

iii. ask your mother and show displeasure on what happened.

iv. react violently and scold her for this.

 

6. Your old parents keep forgetting and say the same things over and over to you. At this, you:

i. listen to them with a smiling face each time they repeat something.

ii. listen to them patiently but displeasure can be seen on your face.

iii. politely make them realize that you do not want to listen to them.

iv. scold them and tell them to not irritate you in this manner.

 

7. Your own children are not very respectful to your parents. So, you:

i. teach them how to show respect by becoming an example before them.

ii. very occasionally tell them to be respectful.

iii. never tell them to be respectful.

iv. behave in a similar manner as your children.

 

8. Your ailing father wants to go for early morning walks every day but he needs help and cannot go alone. You:

i. go with him sacrificing your sleep.

ii. send your servant / son / a helper with him.

iii. do not go your self or make any arrangements and politely refuse.

iv. do not go your self or make any arrangements and scold him for asking you again and again.

 

9. Your old parents cannot live alone. You have space in your home but:

i. send them to an old home to avoid the hassle of taking care of them.

ii. ask a servant to live with them in a separate house.

iii. bring them home and treat them as if they are unwanted.

iv. bring them home and feel it an honour to be of service to them.

 

10. Your spouse is disrespectful to your parents. You:

i. counsel your spouse to be respectful.

ii. very occasionally ask your spouse to be more respectful.

iii. do not take notice of the situation.

iv. join your spouse in this bad behaviour.

III. Improve yourself through Self-Evaluation

Write a “Kindness to Parents” diary for two weeks. Each day write down the unkind acts done by you towards your parents. At the end of two weeks, share this with your closest friend or with your instructor or just destroy it.

Make a commitment to yourself that in future you will not make these mistakes.
