Human Conscience and Day of Judgement

By no means! I present the very Day of Judgement as evidence [to it]. And by no means! I present as evidence the rebuking soul within you. Does man think that We will not be able to bring together his bones? Why not? We can put together the sections of his very finger. In fact, man wants to be mischievous before his [conscience]. He asks: “When will the Day of Judgement be?” But on the day when the sight is dazed, the moon eclipsed and the sun and the moon are brought together, he will say: “Whither to flee?” – No! There is no refuge now! Towards your Lord that Day is the resting place. On that Day, man will be informed what he sent forth and what he left behind. In fact, he himself is a witness upon his own self, however much he may put up excuses. (75:1-15)

Arguments in Favour of the Day of Judgment

Are then We to deal with those who submit to Us as We deal with the wrongdoers? What has come over you? What is this judgement you give? (68:35-36)

Do you then think that We have created you without any purpose and that to Us you would never be returned? So exalted is the status of God, the King. There is no deity except Him, the Lord of the noble throne. (23:115-116)

And it was not for entertainment that We created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them. Had it been Our will to create a game, We could have found one near at hand if We wanted to do this. (21:16-17)

And We have made everything in pairs so that you may be reminded [of the Hereafter]. (51:49)

God has made mercy mandatory on Himself. He will definitely bring you together to take you to the Day of Judgement about which there is no doubt. (6:12)

Have We not made the earth a cradle and the mountains [its] pegs? And not created you in pairs? And not made your sleep a means of comfort? And not made the night a covering and the day a time to earn [your] livelihood? And not built above you seven sturdy [skies]? And not placed a glowing lamp [in them – this sun]? And not sent down abundant water from dripping clouds so that We may bring forth grain, vegetation and gardens of luxurious growth? [All this bears witness that] indeed the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. (78:6-17)

Have then they never observed the sky above them: how We have created and embellished it and [not observed that] it is flawless? And We have spread the earth and set upon it mountains and brought forth in it all kinds of beautiful plants as an insight and reminder for every person who turns [towards the truth]. And We sent down blessed water from the skies with which We thence brought forth gardens, the harvest grain and tall palm-trees stacked with clusters of dates as a means of sustenance for people and from it We enlivened a dead piece of land. In this manner, shall you come out [from the earth on the Day of Judgement]. (50:6-11)

Lesser Days of Judgement

And for each community, there is a messenger. So, when their messenger arrives, their fate is decided with justice and they are not wronged. (10:47)

Have you not heard the news of those before you? The accounts of the people of Noah, ‘Ād, and Thamud, and those who came after them whom only God knows? Their messengers came to them with clear signs, but they placed their hands on their mouths [–the mouths of messengers–] and said: “We reject the message with which you have been sent and have baffling doubts about that which you call us to.” Their messengers said: “Do you have doubts about God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth? He calls you so that He may forgive you your sins and give you respite till an appointed time.” They replied: “You are only a human being like us. You wish to stop us from worshipping the deities our fathers worshipped; so bring us a clear miracle.” Their messengers replied: “We are indeed but mortals like you. Yet God bestows His grace on such of His servants as He chooses and we do not have any authority of our own to present a miracle except by God’s permission …” At last these rejecters told their messengers: “Return to our ways or we will banish you from our land.” Then their Lord revealed to them, saying: “We shall certainly destroy these wrongdoers and then give you this land to dwell after them. [These are glad tidings for] those who are fearful of standing before me [on the Day of Judgement] and those who fear My threat.” (14:9-14)

Advent of the Day of Judgement

And remember the day when the trumpet is sounded and all who are between the heavens and the earth will be horror-struck except for those whom God will choose to spare. (27:87)

O People! Fear your Lord. The upheaval of the Day of Judgement is very horrible indeed. The day you see it, every suckling mother shall forget her infant and every pregnant female shall cast her burden, and you shall see people in a state of inebriation though they would be not inebriated but it would be because God’s punishment would be so grave. (22:1-2)

(81: 1-6، 14)

At the time when the sun ceases to shine, when the stars are bedimmed, when mountains are set moving, when camels, ten-months pregnant are left untended, when wild beasts [forgetting all their enmities] are herded together and when the seas burst forth … Then [O people! Each one of you] will know what he has brought forward. (81:1-6, 14)

Remember the day when We shall roll up the heavens like a scroll wrapped in parchment. Just as We brought about the first creation, so will We do it again. This is a promise binding on Us and We shall certainly fulfill it. (21:104)

Then the trumpet will be blown again and they shall suddenly rise and look around them. (39:68)

And the trumpet will be blown and all of a sudden they will rise up from their graves and hasten to their Lord. (36:51)

The Three Groups on the Day of Judgement

Remember when that which is to happen shall happen. There is no falsity in its happening. It is one which elevates and one which relegates; when the earth will be totally shaken, and the mountains will be crushed to pieces becoming dispersed dust. And you shall be divided into three groups [on that day]. One group then shall be of the companions of the right hand; so what majesty will the companions of the right hand have! The second group shall be of the companions of the left hand; so what a wretched fate shall befall the companions of the left hand! As for the foremost, they shall be the foremost. They shall be the favoured ones in gardens of delight: most among them will be from the early generations but only a few from the later ones. On jewelled couches shall they recline face to face. Boys who will never age shall wait on them with bowls and ewers and cups of purest wine that will neither cause any head spin nor take away their sanity; and fruits which they would relish and the flesh of the birds they desire. And for them shall be large-eyed houris like hidden pearls: a reward for their deeds. There they shall hear no absurd talk, no sinful speech. Only greetings and congratulations everywhere.  (56:1-26)
