Tenets of Faith

The Messenger has believed in what has been revealed to him by His Lord, and so have the believers. All of them have professed faith in God, His angels, His books and His messengers. [They assert:] “We do not differentiate between any of God’s messengers,” and they said: “We have heard and have obeyed. Lord! We seek Your forgiveness, and [believe that on the Day of Judgment] to You shall we return.”(2:285)

True Faith

True believers are those whose hearts are filled with awe at the mention of God, and when His revelations are recited before them, their faith grows stronger and they are ones who trust their Lord alone, show diligence in the prayer and spend [for Our cause] from what We have given them. It is these who are true believers. For them are ranks before their Lord, forgiveness and a noble sustenance. (8:2-4)

True believers are those who professed belief in God and His Messenger and then were never inflicted with any doubt, and fought with their wealth and their persons in the cause of God. It is these who are true [in their faith]. (49:15)

Permanent Requirements of Faith

Time bears witness that these people shall definitely be in a state of loss except those who accepted faith, did righteous deeds, urged one another to the truth and urged one another to remain steadfast on the truth. (103:1-3)

The Source of Religion

It is He who has sent among the unlettered a Messenger from among themselves who recites out to them His revelations and purifies them and [for this objective] he instructs them in divine law and in wisdom. (62:2)

Essence of Religion

And I created jinnkind and mankind only that they worship Me. (51:56)

Contents of Religion

And God has revealed to you the Law and Wisdom and in this manner taught you what you did not know before, and great is God’s favour upon you. (4:113)

The Correct Religious Attitude

And who has a better religion than the one who submits to God, such that he does each deed in a befitting manner. (4:125)

Supporting the Cause of Religion

Believers! Shall I guide you to a deal that will save you from a grievous torment? Profess faith in God and His Messenger, and fight for God’s cause with your wealth and persons. This would be better for you, if you understand. [As a result,] God will forgive your sins and admit you to gardens below which streams flow; He will lodge you in splendid abodes in eternal gardens. This is great success. And He will [also grant] what you desire: help from God and a victory near at hand. And [O Prophet!] Give these glad tidings to the faithful. Believers! Be God’s helpers the way Jesus, son of Mary, said to his disciples: “Who will be my helper in the cause of God?” The disciples replied: “We are God’s helpers.” (61:10-14)

No Compulsion in Religion

There is no compulsion [from God] in religion. The fact is [that after this Qur’an], guidance is now totally distinct from error. So, he who renounces Satan and believes in God, it is as if he has grasped a strong rope that can never break. And God hears all and knows all. (2:256)
